The hotel network as a virtual warden. The classic youth hostel had a warden who played a central part as a listening ear, a catalyst and an intermediary. This role of stimulating encounters and interaction is now filled by the hotel network. With the aid of the latest communication technologies, the hostel warden thus enjoys a contemporary comeback in a 21st hotel with five hundred beds in the middle of Amsterdam.
