Water Pavilion, Floriade, Haarlemmermeer, 2002
The Water Pavilion at Floriade 2002 was designed as an exhibition of living on water in the Netherlands. This is a changing concept. A water home used to be a moored houseboat, something like a floating caravan. Now architects are designing water estates with luxury homes for hundreds of residents. After centuries of fighting off the encroaching water, the Netherlands is now treating water as a welcome ally. Water storage zones have to be created to cope with environmental fluctuations. Using them for as acreage for waterborne homes could make them economically feasible.
