Papendorpse Bridge, Utrecht, 1998-1999

In 1997, the City of Utrecht held a limited competition for the design of a bridge, Papendorpse Brug, across the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. It was required to link the existing district of Kanaaleiland and the new district of Papendorp (part of the Leidsche Rijn VINEX development). The design brief demanded a proposal for both the bridge across the canal and its ramp roads, to be elaborated in terms of urban planning, architecture and construction.
