Water Purification Plant, Rotterdam, 1973-1977
The reservoirs take the form of gigantic drops of water, an unmistakable symbol which makes the waterworks easily identified from the nearby motorway. From the side, these forms can also be seen as melting pyramids. Their huge size is emphasised by the open central area and their sculptural character is confirmed by the counterpoint of the control room and service building.
