Van Herk & de Kleijn architecten

Karperkuil, Hoorn, 2002

Our commission was to design a distinctive apartment building that would stand out from the existing buildings along the city wall, and would relate to other bastions or other individual buildings in the location especially the Hoofdtoren, on account of its characteristic facade structure. The light-coloured rounded section reflects daylight and evening light in such a way that it acts as a beacon when viewed from the Hoornse Hop. The vertical dimensions of the designed building derive from the connection with existing parallel strips of housing on the adjacent street and the Oosterkerk, whose height does not exceed that of the Hoofdtoren
