Borneo House, Amsterdam, 1999
The Borneo House is one of sixty built for private clients on the Borneo Peninsula in Amsterdam. Like other ‘free’ plots on Borneo and Sporenburg, the parcels are narrow and deep. The house designed by Corinne Schrauwen occupies one of the narrower parcels (4.2 m wide). The main design precept was to divide the house into separate working and living areas. Spaciousness, light, lines of sight and extra-high rooms were also ingredients of the design. The clients’ own ideas influenced specific solutions such as the large internal sun room, the view from the bathroom into the sun room and a nesting place for swifts in the facade.
