Prijsvraag Hafnarfjördur, IJsland, Hafnarfjördur, IJsland, 2002

The site was divided into three areas, each with a distinct atmosphere and character: the existing quay, the harbour mole-head, and an area of sea and coastline where land reclamation is possible. This made it into a virtually Dutch-type project – the redevelopment of an old harbour area, land reclamation, making efficient use of small, flat area of land, multiple land use, and making sure that everyone, in the existing houses as well as the new apartments, would have a sea view. The design is more Icelandic, with housing sheltered from the elements, a small scale character and corrugated steel sheeting in a wide range of colours as a finishing material
