Waterrijke Deltametropool, , 2000
The Netherlands is having to face up to the fact that its water management capacity is inadequate. Not only is there flooding at times of peak rainfall periods, but water shortages occur when the weather goes through a dry period. People are seeking to solve these problems by devoting more land to water storage, and by adopting a more flexible approach to water level management. Although these solutions take up scarce space, they do offer the prospect of new waterside residential locations and new recreational amenities in urban fringe zones.
